About

Mission Statement

The mission of Goal Zero: Indiana Drowning Prevention is to decrease drowning deaths in Indiana through education, prevention, and outreach.

About Us

The Indiana Drowning Prevention Corp was founded in 2026 by Bryan Fleck. Over the course of his career as a first responder, water rescuer, and scuba instructor, Bryan saw firsthand the inequities that contribute to preventable drowning deaths in Indiana. Goal Zero reflects the organization’s belief that one drowning is too many.

In 2024, Bryan met Mel Goldstein and partnered with the Indy Aquatic Masters swim club, helping expand their reach in the community. Since 2023, Bryan has also served as a scuba instructor with Sea Scope Inc., where he has observed the racial and socioeconomic barriers that often limit access to swimming skills and water safety education. The Indiana Drowning Prevention Corp was born from these experiences and partnerships, and from a clear commitment to saving lives through education, prevention, and outreach.

Our organization has been approved by the IRS for recognition as a tax-exempt public charity under Section 501(c)(3). However, our listing has not yet been published or updated in the IRS Business Master File. Our bylaws, finances, and meeting minutes are made publicly available after every board meeting. Read our Transparency Pledge. All directors and officers serve as volunteers.

Transparency Pledge

Transparency is a core part of our mission. Goal Zero: Indiana Drowning Prevention tracks and shares clear performance metrics on our strategic objectives so our community can see the real impact of our work. We measure success by the number of:

  • Life rings installed across Indiana
  • Swim lessons funded
  • Educational talks delivered
  • Printed prevention materials distributed
  • Throw bags and life jackets provided to first responders
  • First responder trainings conducted

Our Commitment to Transparency

We believe trust must be earned. Goal Zero is committed to operating with honesty, accountability, and openness in everything we do. We will communicate clearly about our mission, our leadership, our partnerships, and how donated funds are used to support drowning prevention efforts across Indiana.

We are committed to sharing accurate information, measuring our impact, and being straightforward about both our progress and our challenges. Our supporters, partners, and community members deserve to know how we are working toward our mission and how their support helps make that work possible.

Transparency is not just a value to us. It is a responsibility. We are committed to building public trust through clear communication, responsible stewardship, and a willingness to be accountable to the communities we serve. All relevant financials, bylaws, and meeting minutes will be available online after our first board meeting.

Our Silver Status on Candid (formerly GuideStar) reflects that we are a new organization and are continuing to build our public nonprofit profile as we grow.
